1st Miss Strawberry Queen Crowned At Nations Ford High School

The first Miss Strawberry Queen, or I should say Queens, were crownd last night at the South Carolina Strawberry Festival Pageant hosted at Nations Ford High School in Fort Mill SC.

The Fort Mill Times reported today “Avery Close was crowned Teen Miss Strawberry Queen and Anna Skidmore was crowned Miss Strawberry Queen”. See the full story in the Fort Mill Times article .

Congratulations to Avery and Anna who we hope to see at this weekends South Carolina Strawberry Festival events.

Hungry Fort Mill Families Turn To The Fort Mill Care Center

The high South Carolina 2009 unemployment rate continues to put a strain on feeding many needy families. The Fort Mill Care Center has been in high gear to help our local Fort Mill families in need.

The Fort Mill Care Center reported in October they:

Gave out 20,090 lbs of food!
Paid out $13,349 in utilities!
Paid out $3,642 for prescriptions!

The Fort Mill Care Center was established in 1967 and is a voluntary non-profit organization of concerned citizens who address the immediate needs of other citizens within the town of Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Their major emphasis is helping families who find themselves in need of basic necessities with food, fuel, power, heat, and medicine . In addition, the Care Center assists with counseling, or guidance via other agencies that can help.

How can you help? The Fort Mill Care Center is always in need of

Canned goods, boxed and bagged foods. Basic Care Needs like toiletries, hand and face soaps, shampoo, etc.
Baby/Toddler Care Needs like all sizes of diapers, and other baby care items.
Money, Gift Cards, Unopened Toys School supplies/backpacks…
And of course ypu can volunteer your time to help sort, and bag items.

Stupid Signs and Spending Your Tax Money

In my recent travels, I stumbled on a sign that, well, just made me laugh out loud. I turned around and had to take a picture of the sidewalk closed sign.

Do we really need to be told in such a bold manner that the sidewalk ends? How much money did this Florida development (Heathrow)/Seminole County spend on the sign, posts and chain? I suppose there is some safety or ADA related story that has motivatied this sign expenditure.

I hope our York County, Fort Mill, or Tega Cay county and city officials don’t spend our tax dollars like this Florida County.

Based on our economic situation and never ending government budget deficits, I think we all could live safety without this sign. What do you think?
