Empowering Youth Christ Central Summer Camp in  Fort Mill, SC is June 6—July 29, 2011 at Steele Street Park. The cost is FREE!!! The park is at 600 Steele St. Park, Steele St., Fort Mill, SC.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00am-Noon, Ages • For ALL children ages 8-12 years

EYTSC is a camp designed to not only provide a safe and fun place for children to go during the summer, it also is designed to provide children with socialization skills, basic knowledge on how to handle certain life issues, and how to work together as a group and within the community.

The camp will begin June 6th and finish up on July 29th. We will be open Monday through Thursday, 4 days a week this year but the summer meals program will continue to operate 5 days a week. Last year we served over hundred children and we hope to serve more this year.

In order to accomplish this goal we need your assistance. Some of the obstacles faced in previous years were funding and the lack of volunteers. If there are any groups or organizations who would like to get involve with the camp please let us know. All monetary donations and voluntary support is greatly appreciated and is needed.

Fort Mill Lacrosse Families,

The 2011 Spring Season is almost here and we wanted to pass along the Middle School lacrosse information to all families. While we know many of you have moved onto high school (and some beyond!), please feel free to pass this information on to others you may know who are interested in playing lacrosse at the middle school level.

The Fort Mill Lacrosse Club is fielding both boys (7th and 8th grade) and girls (6th, 7th and 8th grade) middle school teams this year. On-line registration is open now on the FM Lacrosse web site (www.fmlacrosse.com). December dates for in-person registration will be Saturday, December 4th & 11th at the Fort Mill Library located in Baxter – 1st floor meeting room from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Additional dates in January will be announced. Registration is $195.00 for the season. Detailed information, forms, etc. can all be found on our web site.

As part of our lacrosse community we have MANY players who participate in other sports! Next week the Fort Mill Wrestling Foundation is trying to raise some money and bring awareness to the student body about the sport of wrestling by SELLING OUT the Fort Mill gym for a Varsity wrestling match between Nation Ford and Fort Mill. This is the beginning of the Yellow Jackets defending their pre-season #1 Ranking. The “Main Event” will be Tuesday, December 7th (after school) in the Fort Mill gym. Cost: $7 ticket –gets you in the match, 2 slices of pizza and a drink, chance to win prizes. GRAND PRIZE: IPAD (Must be present to win prizes). Finally, mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Catawba Classic Lacrosse Tournament! The date is set for June 18-19, 2011. We are looking forward to a huge event and based on fantastic feedback and volunteer participation from our local lacrosse families, we expect it to be bigger and better than last year if that is even possible!!! Thank you for all you did in 2010 and we’re looking forward to working with each of you on the tournament again this year.

In July the Fort Mill Care Center had 41 NEW clients..

In August they had 50 NEW…. those are some BIG numbers for any one month!

During the month of August The Fort Mill Care Center had 591 families pass thru our doors for various reasons, and that is NOT counting the number of people that came in on Mondays to sign up for the Carolina Community Actions LIHEAP program…. Nor is that counting how many came to the 6 “free food” give-aways in August.

The Fort Mill Care Center gave out approximately 450 filled book bags in August along with many children getting just school supplies as well being able to give some additional school supplies that were needed at some of the local grades schools.

September is the Center’s dental hygiene month and every family that comes in for food will also get new toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Fort Mill South Carolina Strawberry Festival count down has  official begun! The festival will be a celebration of spring… and all things strawberry!

The South Carolina Strawberry Festival will kick off on Thursday, April 29, 2010 with the Miss South Carolina Strawberry Festival Pageant at Nation Ford High School from 7:00 to 9:00 pm (1400 AO Jones Blvd)

On Friday, April 30, 2010, the Festival will be in full swing at Walter Y. Elisha Park. Festivities will begin at 6:00 pm and will feature arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, and activities for the entire family including live music “Strawberry Jam,” and the day will end with a fireworks display at 10:00 pm.

Saturday, May 1, 2010 the festival begins again at 9:00 am. Come hear the best local talent during the Colgate Country Showdown, presented by WRHI and Interstate 107.

Visit Piedmont Medical Center’s “Healthy Hometown” for free heath screenings and tips about healthy living. Showcase your secret family recipe by entering the Strawberry Baking contest, or test your appetite by participating in the strawberry ice cream or strawberry pie eating contests. Family-friendly activities, including kids’ rides, a rock wall, Guitar Hero, pig races, and face painting will also be available. Arts and crafts and food vendors will be on hand as well.

The Festival will conclude on Sunday, May 2, 2010 with the third annual Dylan Mitchell Memorial Criterium, sponsored by John Deere. Hundreds of amateur and professional cyclists from throughout the southeast will descend on downtown Fort Mill for an action-packed day of fast-paced, short track road racing. Proceeds from the criterium will benefit the Fort Mill Care Center.
